In the present work, Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are synthesized via plantain peel extract by the biogenic method. The reaction process is simple, eco-friendly and convenient to handle. These MNPs are characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer Emmett and Teller surface area analyzer and vibrating sample magnetometer techniques. The Fe 3 O 4 MNPs possess high Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) surface area which is found to be 11.31 m 2 /g and well-dispersed Fe 3 O 4 MNPs have spherical morphology. The size below 50 nm are seen in transmission electron microscopic image. In addition, the MNPs present in higher saturation magnetization (15.8 emu/g) show excellent magnetic response behavior. • In the present work, plantain peels extract act as reducing and capping agent. • This method is eco-friendly because there is no use of hazardous chemicals. • Fe 3 O 4 MNPs were stable, excellent magnetic properties and average size of 50 nm. • The Fe 3 O 4 MNPs possess high BET surface area of 11.31 m 2 /g. • Hence, Fe 3 O 4 MNPs will be used for adsorbent and medicinal applications.
